EL MONTE - A 10-month old child was killed Sunday when a family member ran over the child with a vehicle, police said. The boy, Javier Ramos, was struck about 11 a.m. in the driveway of his family's home in the 2200 block of Bryce Road, police said. The boy was then transported to Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center where he went under surgery and was late pronounced dead, police said. The incident occurred while Ramos and other siblings were playing in the front yard of their home, said Officer Jimmie Pitts. Ramos' mother was present at the time, Pitts said. The boy crawled toward the driveway and was struck by an 18-year-old family member backing into the driveway, Pitts said. "He was backing a full-size Chrysler family car," said Pitts. "And he didn't see the victim."
Toddler Drowns In North Sacramento Pond Child Pronounced Dead At Mercy San Juan Medical Center

A 16-month-old girl drowned in a North Highlands pond on Friday morning, according to the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District. Officials said the child drowned in the 6200 block of Jack London Circle and was pronounced dead at Mercy San Juan Medical Center. There are no suspicious circumstances at this time, officials said, and an investigation into the child's death will be conducted.
1 tot dead, 1 hurt in separate water-related incidents

After four separate water-related incidents in the Valley on Saturday, one child is dead and one was in critical condition late Saturday. Two others were expected to recover. Fire officials said a 16-year-old Avondale mother left her 8-month-old son unattended in a bathtub Saturday around 3:30 p.m. The mother's 9-year-old brother found the baby face down in the water. The baby was flown to St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. The boy's death marked the first child drowning in the Valley this year, according to Capt. Hugh Chase of the Phoenix Fire Department.

A child in Surprise suffered serious injuries after being attacked by a dog last night. The three-year-old boy was with his parents in their neighbor's backyard for a gathering when the neighbor's German shepherd mix attacked the boy without warning, Surprise police said.The boy has severe facial injuries from the attack and he was transported by air to a hospital in Phoenix, police said.

A 2-year-old boy was taken to county hospital in critical condition after being found in a backyard pool Saturday, according to the Scottsdale Fire Department. Scottsdale and Tempe fire units responded to a reported drowning in the 1300 block of 87th Place in Scottsdale at about 12:45 p.m. The caller had pulled the boy out of the pool and had begun CPR before the fire units arrived, said Tiffani Nichols, Fire Department spokeswoman. It is unknown how long he was in the water. The boy was not breathing and did not have a pulse when being transported to the hospital, Nichols said.

A fatal accident closed Interstate 70 eastbound at mile marker 110 around 1 p.m. on Sunday. A young mother and her child were killed when the car in which they were traveling got into a spin under a bridge at CR 850 East in Hancock County and crossed the median before striking another car, then a semi and ending up in a ditch."I walked up there before the cops and everything got here and there were already guys that checked the people out and they were dead," said witness Brad Cohee. Police believe the child was in a car seat, but say it wouldn't have made much of a difference. "Anytime you have kids involved, it just makes it that much worse," said Maj. Hunt. "There's a family that has lost a daughter and grandchild in just moments and that makes it a lot tougher for us."

The following information has been provided by the Riverside Police Department: On Saturday, February 14, at 11:11 a.m., the Riverside Police Department Communications Center was called about a missing four-year-old male. The reporting party was the child’s teenage sister. While the dispatcher was on the phone, the child was located in the family pool by a teenage brother. The reporting party disconnected the phone before the dispatcher could obtain further information.  The address to the house was obtained by the Communications Center. Riverside police officers responded to the Monroe Street address and found the unresponsive child had been transported immediately to Parkview Hospital by an adult neighbor. The hospital is approximately four blocks from the address. The child was pronounced dead due to child drowning at the hospital by Parkview emergency-room staff. Initial investigation finds the child’s parents were not at home and the child was in the care and custody of his older sister and brother. The pool in question was located in the rear yard of the family home. The pool was full of brown, murky water and the bottom could not be seen. According to the original reporting party, the child was missing for approximately 20 minutes prior to calling the police.

A Phoenix toddler was killed Tuesday after being hit by a truck while playing on the sidewalk, police said. The two-year-old was playing near his home in the 6000 block of West Catalina Drive at about 2:30 p.m. The Dodge pickup truck backed out of a driveway and did not see the boy. Phoenix Police arrived and performed CPR on the boy until Phoenix Fire Department arrived and took him to an area hospital, Phoenix Fire Capt. Shelly Jameson said in child safety. The boy was later pronounced dead at the hospital, according to a police document.
